UDALBIDE aims to help publish the book BORTZIRIETAKO GAZTIAK”through this project.
The book was written by the teacher Rosa Arburua.
This book aims to unite the ethnographical-historical testimonies of people still alive today; the strange, unique lives of those who lived out their youth in the Spanish post-war period.
They were born and grew up in a situation far from common: the height of a war. Insofar as they could, they went to school and worked. In Navarre’s Cinco Villas area (Arantza, Etxalar, Bera, Igantzi and Lesaka) and in addition to farm work, these young people found other ways of making a living: smuggling, the timber trade in Irati, cod-fishing in Newfoundland, the girls `doing the season´ in the inns of the Northern Basque Country (Iparralde) or as maids in Paris, and, finally, shepherding in North America.
