Udalbiltza and Eusko Ikaskuntza to take part in the conference by in honour of SANCHO III

We will be celebrating the thousandth anniversary of the coronation of the `LORD OF THE BASQUES´

UDALBILTZA is to take part in the Conference on Sancho III El Mayor organized by Eusko Ikaskuntza, on Saturday the 3rd of April, at the head office of this Basque cultural institution in Gasteiz. The conference will be held under the title `Euskal Herria in the 11th century. Kingdom Sancho III el Mayor of Pamplona (1004-1035)´.

Several historians of contrasting prestige will be speaking at the conference. Among others, Roldan Jimeno, Elena Barrena, Iñaki Garcia Camino, Aitor Pescador, Juan Jose Larrea, Tomas Urzainki and Manex Goyhenetche.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide historians and teachers with certain reflections which may help to understand the reality of such an unknown period of our past and, at the same time, carry out a study by limiting ourselves to Euskal Herria viewed from Euskal Herria as a historic subject.

Valeriano Tena, city councillor of Gasteiz, and Peio Iparragirre, town councillor of Salvatierra-Agurain, will be attending on the part of UDALBILTZA.

This year, we will be celebrating the thousandth anniversary of the coronation of Sancho III el Mayor. On the occasion of this event and with the assistance of UDALBILTZA, the inauguration of a monument on Cape Higer in Hondarribia is planned in honour of he who was known in the 11th century as `The Lord of the Basques´. Likewise, a cantata, a pastoral and a play about the era of Sancho III el Mayor will be premiered. Finally, two history books about the same era will be published.
